Silvia Ospina was born in Bucaramanga, Colombia. She started her dance studies at the Escuela Departamental de Ballet de Santander, and continues them in France (CNDC, Angers) and in Germany (Folkwang Hochschule /Pina Bausch, Essen). She has a formation (Ba/Ma) in Visual and Media Arts (Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Bogotá, Colombia, and Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln, Germany).
After finishing her studies she danced with different choreographers and quickly enters to works in her own, starting to research in her movement vocabulary and explore her visuel imaginary.
Since 10 years, she is working as independent choreographer and director, creating different pieces for the stage, film, performance and video format. During all this years, she has been participating in several exhibitions for dance and film/video festivals (Arte Video Night, Palais de Tokyo, Screen Festival, Moma Leipzig, Cinemateca Distrital, Festival de Danza en la Ciudad, among others).
Next to her work as choreographer and director, she conducted the Movement Laboratory for the Physical Theater and Acting department at the Folkwang Universität der Künste. For 7 years she lead the Movement program offered to the students, and teaches herself Movement training, Improvisation and Composition classes.Her coaching for movement and creative process has taking place too at the Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln, Universidad Nacional de Colombia and at UIS-Artes Bucaramanga; she offered courses where the dialogue between Movement-Body and Arts-Media where on focus.

Nacida en Bucaramanga, Silvia Ospina realiza estudios de Danza en la Escuela Departamental de Ballet de Santander, en el Centre National de Danse Contemporaine d’Angers, Francia y en la Folkwang Hochschule (Pina Bausch) de Essen, Alemania. Así mismo, realiza estudios de Producción Audiovisual en la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana de Santa fe de Bogotá y un Master en Artes Mediales en la Kunsthochshule für Medien de Colonia.
Su trabajo creativo se caracteriza por la yuxtaposición de diferentes medios los cuales se integran dentro de la obra para cumplir con una función narrativa que logre intensificar la experiencia con el espectador. En sus piezas „Transit Tropical“ (2009) y „Smoke Land“ (2011), se revela una propuesta escénica interdisciplinaria, tejida con textos, danza, performance, música y video instalaciones.
En su experiencia profesional como bailarina y coreógrafa ha trabajado para producciones del Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Tanzhaus NRW- Düsseldorf, Staatstheater Saarbrücken, Fabrik Potsdam, Ruhtriennale entre otros.
Como Artista Visual ha creado diferentes films y vídeos (“Nomaden” 2013 y Animals-ein tanzduett“ 2008) los cuales se enfoncan en los aspectos cinéticos y expresivos del cuerpo. Sus obras realizadas para este formato han sido mostradas en el Palais de Tokyo de Paris, el canal ARTE de Francia/Alemania, Kunst im Tunnel de Dusseldorf, Screencity Festival de Noruega, MIMA International Art Festival de Leipzig entre otros.
Desde el 2007, Silvia ha desarrollado tambien un trabajo de investigación de movimiento en el departamento de Teatro Clásico y Teatro Físico, de la Folkwang Universität der Künste, en Essen, Alemania. Desde el 2011, es también maestra invitada en la Academy of Media Arts de Colonia, Alemania para dirigir seminarios entorno al trabajo técnico y expresivo del cuerpo. Silvia Ospina ha sido ganadora de diferentes estímulos para la creación y la formación tales como la Beca Colcultura, Beca Carolina Oramas, Beca DAAD y la Beca de Creación del Ministerio de Cultura 2014 con la que creación de BOUDOIR, su última producción interdisciplinaria para la escena.
