Silvia Ospina, born in Bucaramanga, Colombia, started her dance studies at the Escuela Departamental de Ballet de Santander, and continues them  in France (CNDC, Angers) and in Germany (Folkwang Hochschule, Essen). She also has a formation in Visual and Media Arts (Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Bogotá, Colombia, and Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln, Germany). She danced with various choreographers (Sasha Waltz, Helgue Letonja, Johann Kresnik, Pina Bausch) and soon began to conceive her work, developing a movement vocabulary and exploring her visual language. For more than ten years she has been working as a freelance choreographer and director, and has gained experience in theatre, film, video productions, dance and performance.

The central theme of Silvia Ospina’s work is her diasporic biography, transformed into a metaphorical coming and going between Europe and Colombia, dance and video, mythology and feminism. Across physical and academic boundaries, and inspired by the contributions of popular art and contemporary philosophy from the global South, Silvia Ospina has given a very personal stamp on her artistic work, with which she endeavours to expand a space of emancipatory action, in Colombia, Germany and other places where her work germinates.

She has participated in several exhibitions and festivals for dance, film and video, including Arte Video Night, Palais de Tokyo, Rencontres Internationales Paris-Berlin, Screen Festival Norway, Moma Leipzig, Cinemateca Distrital, Festival de Danza en la Ciudad Bogotá. In 2021 she was the artistic director of the festival ‘MAGMA Translocal Performance Meeting’ in Berlin, which focusses on the development of new performative formats for interaction in the community. In 2020, together with Die Körpergemeinschaft e.V., she founded the space CORDILLERA – Raum für Körper und Utopien, in Berlin, Germany, of which she is Artistic Director.

Así mismo, realiza una formación (Ba/Ma) en Artes Visuales y Mediales (Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Bogotá, Colombia, y Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln, Alemania). Silvia baila para varios coreógrafos (Sasha Waltz, Helgue Letonja, Johann Kresnik, Pina Bausch) y pronto comienza a desarrollar su obra, desarrollando un vocabulario de movimiento y explorando el lenguaje visual. Desde hace más de diez años trabaja como coreógrafa y directora independiente, y adquiriendo experiencia en producciones teatrales, cinematográficas, vídeo, danza y performance.

El tema central de la obra de Silvia Ospina es su biografía diaspórica, convertida en un metafórico ir y venir entre Europa y Colombia, la danza y el vídeo, la mitología y el feminismo. Más allá de las fronteras físicas y académicas, e inspirada en las aportaciones del arte popular y la filosofía contemporánea del Sur global, Silvia Ospina imprime un sello personal a su trabajo artístico, con el que amplia un espacio de acción emancipadora, en Colombia, Alemania y otros lugares donde su obra, como una semilla, germina.
